Lots of Celebrations

This week was spring break for schools, so to speak. Muhammed's birthday was last weekend, Preisdent Wade's inauguration was on Tuesday (complete with an appearance by Akon who is Senegalese), the 4 avril was Independence Day, and of course, Sunday is Easter. Yesterday our Mandinka karamoo (teacher) also took the four Mandinka karandinool (students) to his house for his cousin's baby's baptism and naming ceremony. It was there that I saw my first sheep slaughter. Well 2 actually! I guess it had to happen sometime so I can check it off the list! Today we went on a field trip around Theis to check out the varous health posts.

I'll try to get some pictures up soon, but I still need to take some, perhaps one of me in my new Senegalese dress!

Jamie, how was the lamb or mutton or whatever you call the meat of the sheep? All your vegetarian friends and relatives want to know how you're handling meat eating.
We've sent you a package. It cost more to send it than what was in it! We're in beautiful downtown Redmond Oregon where it's raining. Your aunt and uncle and cousins say hello. Love, Mom

Good Morning Miss Jamie - - our morning,

It is more difficult for us to visualize you than it is for you to visualize us. I love the circle in which you have your meals - - how much understanding can occur if we talk to each other around a kitchen table. I can imagine you taking a little lamb to start with - - we would take more, as it is probably our favorite meat.

We had a last blast (maybe) of winter last week with the biggest snow fall of the year. The next day WMD had Dennis Kucinich, and we turned out a group of about 50 in spite of the weather. He probably has no chance, but he has a wonderful message. He has opposed this horrid war from before it began. We hope to have more candidates during the year, and we are in touch with the Obama campaign. The group met in the clubhouse here in our little community, and it is a perfect spot for such a meet and greet.

Our communicator, Jeanne Ludt, is at the hospital each day, as her dear husband had surgery for a double brain aneurism two weeks ago. She will not be sending any emails, so we hope to find a volunteer to stand or sit in for her until she is able to return.

Wish we could drop in on you - - perhaps we will next year. It is great to read your blog, and we look forward to following your adventure.

We send oodles of love!

Happy Easter Dear Jamie

What an adventure you are having. It sounds like you have the spirit of Joyce in your desire to travel to see the world. My adventure is figuring out how to post on this blog. We have a beautiful Sunday morning, clear as a bell here in C.O. Grass is growing and the baby calves are running and playing. We are all anxious to here about your days and new experiences. Can't wait to see pictures. Much love and warm wishes, Laura & Family
